If you want to learn how to pack a suitcase properly, have a read of this article.  We will discuss how many clothes and other items to bring in your suitcase, which type of suitcase to bring and how to place items in your case. Hopefully, after reading this article, you will be able to pack your suitcase with confidence and get on the road.

Packing a suitcase is one of those tasks that appears to become an obstacle between us and our travel. This should not be the case.  I know many seasoned travelers that are able to pull out a suitcase from under their bed about a half hour before they are supposed to leave and still be on time for their taxi.  Picking the correct suitcase is vital when you are going to travel.  Do you want to store the case in the overhead luggage or will your suitcase go in the hold.  Realistically, unless you are going for a very short trip your case will have to go in the hold.  Therefore, your case should be robust and secure.  Many a holiday has been ruined because a case has been broken into or has been damaged and the contents ruined.

When it comes to packing your suitcase it is important to bear in mind the reason that you are traveling.  If you are going on a sun holiday you will pack differently than if you are going on an activity holiday or traveling to a wedding.  If you keep the reason you are traveling to the forefront of your mind as you are placing each item in your case, you will be surprised how many items may not make it into the case.  Keep the suspected weather conditions at your destination in mind also.  It always seems to be easier to pack for the weather conditions that you are currently experiencing rather that for the type of weather you will experience when you reach your destination.

Keep toiletries to a minimum if possible also.  Unless you are traveling to some very remote location, most toiletries can be purchased at your destination.  If you do carry toiletries, make sure that they are in a sealed bag so they will not damage your clothing if they leak in transit.  Footwear is cumbersome and heavy.  Wear a neutral pair of shoes that will go with most of your clothes and perhaps bring one or two other light pairs of shoes or sandals.

When actually packing your case roll most of your clothes as this makes them easier to stack.  If rolling them tightly will not be good for them then fold them neatly.  Give your self some time to pack.  I mentioned earlier about the seasoned travelers being able to pack a suitcase in half an hour.  You will be able to do that also – with some practice.

Packing your suitcase is never easy, but doing it properly means that you can set out on your travels knowing that you have planned your packing properly.  Picking the right suitcase, keeping in mind the reason you are traveling and packing your items tightly and neatly will all help you to do the job properly.  So now that you know how to pack a suitcase, what are you waiting for?
