Add Comfort for Winter with a Red Rug

without comments

If you have a plain neutral look to your room it can look wonderfully fresh and clean. This is a great look for modern interiors as we like our homes to look open and spacious. This type of look is not so welcoming in winter however. When the temperature cools down the last thing we want is for our living room to feel “fresh”. Don’t worry however. There is no need to redecorate just because it is winter. You can add some warming touches with accessories. And a red rug can form the center of your new color scheme.

The main thing is to use accessories which can be quickly put out of the way when summer rolls around again because your room will again look a little out of place when bright sunshine hits your windows again. A rug is ideal for this as it can be rolled up and accommodated in a very small amount of storage space in the closet. (Just make sure you keep it in a dry place as any damp can cause mold to form and permanently damage your rug).

Choose a rug in a warm red color. This may mean choosing burgundy for a richer tone rather than bright red which can be a surprisingly cool color in certain situations especially if twinned with white or nautical colors like navy blue. Also choose a texture that looks soft and comfortable. A red shag rug would be great as the long pile catches the light in all different ways. As for materials, wool is best as it is both hard wearing and soft. Subtle patterns work well in winter too as they tend to seems softer and warmer than a plain color or a pattern made up of bright geometrics.

Add matching accessories to improve the effect of your red rug. A few cushions, a cashmere throw and velvet curtains will help bring out the rich colors in your rug and add to your comfort and warmth at the same time.
