What Braces do
If your teeth are crooked or your bite is off you may be thinking of going to see the Milpitas dental office or the orthodontist. The most common thing they do to correct an over or under bite or unaligned teeth are to put Braces on.
Braces are put on by gluing a bracket to each tooth and taking a wire also known as an arch and putting it in between a space in each bracket. The arch is held on by rubber bands. This applies mild pressure that helps to move the teeth slowly into place where you want them. The reason it is done slowly is so that your teeth don’t get ripped out by too much pressure pulling at too great of a force.
Once they are in place you will go back monthly to get the rubber bands replaced and any adjustments that might be needed. For example you may have to have rubber bands put on to connect the upper teeth to the lower teeth to help shift them one way or another. This can be sore as the teeth shift.
The brackets can cause irritation on the inside of your mouth. Because of this dentists or orthodontists may give you wax which can be put on the back caps. The wax acts as a buffer so that you can protect your cheek from getting cut.
You will also want to use threaders with your floss so that you can floss in between each bracket so that you can keep the plaque away.
These are just of the things that you will want to keep in mind. When going to the dentist or orthodontist make sure to ask them any questions that you may have. They will be able to tell you what their experiences have been and what they recommend so that you have the best experience you can have with Braces for teeth.
