Tips for the Bride on a Budget
Getting married is big business nowadays, judging from all the wedding services available, from photographers and videographers to hairdressers, caterers, florists, cake shops, and more. If you’re a bride-to-be and you’re planning your wedding, there’s no doubt that you will get overwhelmed with all the information and the products–from jewelry to gowns or temple dresses to bridesmaid’s accessories–that you think you might need to pull off the totally glamorous wedding of your dreams. Because of the pervading grand wedding plans and vision, what typically happens is that people go well beyond their wedding budget, never mind if they have to spend the next year or so in debt, as long as they get everything they want on their big day.
You might have heard this piece of advice before, but we’ll say it again: Don’t go overboard. Stay practical and focused, and be sure you have pinned down what you envision your wedding to be like. By staying focused, you will at least be preventing yourself from easily giving in to details such as expensive decorating concepts for your wedding.
Before starting to look at what you need for the wedding, fix your budget first, deciding how much you want to allocate for the big day and then exert all effort to stick with it. If you find a scheme or idea that you like, there’s no need for you to copy it down to the very last detail. You can find alternatives that will help you duplicate what you like without requiring you to spend too much.
Take bridal gowns as an example. It’s important to a lot of women to have their very own, original gown, but for some, it’s just not practical to shell out a lot of money on a gown they will only hopefully wear once, making bridal gown rental a very good alternative. This is a particularly good idea if you don’t think you want to blow the money on a gown of your own. If you’re iffy about this because you don’t want to wear a gown that somebody else already has, consider this: The gown is well washed and taken cared of after use, and even if you get a brand-new gown from a bridal shop, chances are somebody out there has also chosen the exact same style you did. All you need to do with your rental gown is to punch it up a bit with unique accessories and flowers; your hairstyle alone will go a long way towards personalizing your look.
The key thing to remember is that you really don’t need to spend two years’ salary on your wedding. Being meticulous about things like the food, the dress, the flowers, and the venue is a good thing, but not with little details like individually crafted napkin holders that don’t really contribute much to the overall tone of the celebration.
