Finding Your Perfect Toilet

without comments

Walk into any decent sized bathroom showroom and you could easily be overwhelmed by the range of toilet models on offer. These days they come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Flushing performance also varies considerably between different toilet designs so unless you want to learn how to unclog a toilet, it’s best to ensure that you buy a toilet that works effectively. Read on for some tips to guide your thought process.

Before you head to the bathroom showroom, check the distance between the wall and the main drain over which you will be placing the toilet. If this is 12 inches you are in luck as that is the standard. Your choice of models will be larger.

Check also how much space you have in your bathroom. If things are a little cramped you may want to consider a round toilet seat. While these are generally less comfortable than elongated seats, they are great for space saving.

When it comes to flush performance look for the following attributes: a large trap way (this should be at least 1.5 inches in diameter), a large flapper valve (allowing for a large volume of water to be released into the bowl during the flush) and a non friction coating on the bowl and drain entrance. These features will reduce the chance of the toilet clogging and the need for you to get out the ball plunger to get things moving again.

If you’re happy purchasing a more expensive toilet than its a good idea to opt for a one-piece design. Not only are these more stylish than the two piece models where the tank is separated from the bowl, but they are also easier to clean.

If you are a tall person, or have difficulty getting up and down from a toilet, choose a model that has a taller height than standard. Most of the main manufactures offer this option so you shouldn’t have to compromise on other features.
