Oral Irrigation Is Good For Dental Health…

without comments

Dental hygienists like to see patients who have good oral hygiene.  They tend to cringe when they see patients with a lot of plaque build up. They know that under that plaque, ‘bad’ bacteria grow and cause dental health problems.

Therefore, they want to be helpful to their patients by explaining the basics and encouraging them to do better.  But, the reality is that many patients do not want to hear it.  They believe they are being lectured.  So a good hygienist often finds herself walking a fine line between helping the patient and possibly pushing ‘too hard’.

They often offer their patients a lot of information about taking better care of their dental heath.  One of the things that you might hear them talk about is oral irrigation.  Oral irrigation can help.  One irrigator that some recommend is the hydro floss oral irrigator.

Good brushing and flossing techniques are also considered very important.  You can learn a lot from a hygienist about how to properly brush and floss.  The use of a manual and electric toothbrush require different approaches.  It is easy to make a mistake with an electric if you are not aware of the differences.

There are a number of techniques and tools that your hygienist can help you with. The biggest problem however is that many people either do not know that they are having a problem or do not believe they are.

Unfortunately, the statistics tell the true story.  Up to 75% of people have some form of gum disease right now.  Most people do not believe that they fall in the 75%.  Yet many do.

This is the dilemma for hygienists.  They want to help but it is difficult when the patient throws up a lot of barriers.  Fortunately oral irrigation is something that is easy to do.
