If an alcoholic discontinue alcohol drinking, it is most likely that alcohol withdrawal will follow. This is because the brain and the rest of the body have been addicted to alcohol.
Not everybody who has been drinking alcohol for years and has suddenly stopped will experience the same string of symptoms. Effects of alcohol withdrawal can range from mild to complex. The degree of alcohol withdrawal depends on the person’s level of alcohol abuse. If a person has consumed alcohol for years and drank huge volumes, then he may probably face relatively severe symptoms. The usual alcohol withdrawal symptoms duration will be around three days, weeks and even months.
One of the general symptoms of alcohol withdrawal is shaking. It may start with the hands and goes through the rest of the body. Some of the initial effects include irritability, high blood pressure, abnormal breathing, vomiting, sweating and insomnia. These symptoms will start to attack within24 hours after your last drinking. If these symptoms are not treated, they can easily turn into something more serious and complicated in the coming days.
One very serious symptom that you may experience as a victim of withdrawal is hallucination. You will start seeing things and movements as if they are very real. Some may think that this does not really pose a real threat on the person. However, when the alcoholic will not receive guidance and attention when hallucinating, he can put others and himself in danger. Vivid hallucination episodes may just last for two days when proper treatment is given.
